Challenge
Proving the safety of autonomous vehicles is not possible (statistically) by simply testing the vehicles on the road. For certain operational design domains, billions of kilometers would have to be driven without an accident in order to provide this evidence.

Solution
A digital twin of an autonomous vehicle was used in a defined operational design domain in the inner city. With the addition of parameter distributions from real recorded data, the error rate of the system under test could be efficiently tested and determined for this operational environment.
