Challenge
The development of autonomous vehicles requires extensive testing. In order to be able to map this cost-efficiently in simulations, other, already existing, vehicle components must be mapped behaviorally as a digital twin to ensure the validity of these simulations.

Solution
A digital twin of an electronic control system was developed and integrated into the virtual prototype of the complete vehicle. The behavior of the digital twin was then validated using real driving data. By providing and using the digital twin, it was possible to ensure that the test of the autonomous vehicle functions in the simulation environment also leads to reliable results in the driving dynamics limit range.
